pink-day-2

Did you know that, according to Susan G. Komen, this year it’s estimated that among women in the U.S., there will be:

  • 310,720 new cases of invasive breast cancer (new cases of primary breast cancer, not breast cancer recurrences)
  • 56,500 new cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a non-invasive breast cancer
  • 42,250 breast cancer deaths

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and regardless of how close a person is to this all-too-common form of cancer – a loved one, acquaintance, coworker, etc. – it’s crucial that we as people come together in observance. As such, the Revelation Pharma team is declaring October 4th “Pink Day,” during which we will wear pink ribbons company-wide, as well as our network partners. This is just a small representation of our dedication to women’s health and exploring the use of compounded medications in both prominent and less prominent health conditions.

What is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

While most of us are familiar with the month of observance, it’s important to spend time to really understand it and the scope of support around it.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign held every October designed to support those who have received a breast cancer diagnosis, as well as to provide education on a global scale about risk factors, the importance of screening and the methods of prevention.

Participation in leading the charge is substantial – and, frankly, very inspiring – from various breast cancer advocacy groups, localized organizations, and even well-known retailers. A crucial part of the campaign is providing education about the importance of identifying breast cancer risk factors as well as undergoing screenings at age 40 (or earlier, depending on risk). Together, these organizations are spreading the word and encouraging involvement as they work hard to fundraise and promote ongoing research.

With this, we encourage women and men (who also have the potential for breast cancer though rare, with about 1% of male diagnoses each year) to begin an assessment of risk with their healthcare providers and determine any next steps in the process.

Pink Day is just one step towards raising awareness. Let’s work together to be active participants in the fight against breast cancer.
