Frequently Asked Questions
What is a compounding pharmacy?
A compounding pharmacy prepares medications by combining individual ingredients, based on a prescriber’s order for a specific patient. Commercial drugs are mass-produced for the general population. Compounded medications are made for one patient’s particular needs.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes. Compounded medications are prepared for a single patient with a valid prescription from a licensed prescriber.
Are compounded medications FDA-approved?
No. The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety or effectiveness. They are prepared by licensed pharmacists according to your prescriber’s order and are regulated by State Boards of Pharmacy, with USP standards applied in daily practice. As with any medication, talk with your prescriber about risks.
Where do your ingredients come from?
Ingredients come from suppliers that are registered with and inspected by the FDA.
How long will my prescription take?
Every medication is prepared for you, so timing varies. Many are ready within 24 to 48 hours, and some compounded medications take longer. Sending your prescription early helps. Call us for an estimate on yours.
How do I refill my prescription?
Log in to the Patient Portal or call (770) 421-1399.
How do I transfer my prescription to Innovation Compounding?
Select Start a Transfer, complete the form, and our team will reach out if we need anything else.
Will my insurance cover my medication?
Coverage depends on your plan. Call your insurer to ask about compounded medications. We can provide documentation to submit to them.
Can my medication be made without an ingredient I'm allergic or sensitive to?
Often, yes. Contact us and your prescriber to discuss options. Changes to a formula require your prescriber’s approval.
What forms can compounded medications take?
Options include creams, gels, troches, capsules, liquids, suppositories, sublingual and orally disintegrating tablets, and gummies, among others. Injectables can also be prepared. What is available depends on your prescription.
What if my package is delayed?
We work for accurate, on-time delivery, but we cannot guarantee handling by USPS or FedEx once a medication leaves our facility. Contact us right away if there is a problem. See Where We Ship.
