Compounded Peptides: What to Know
What is the difference between pharmaceutical-grade and research-grade peptides?
Pharmaceutical-grade peptide preparations are compounded by licensed 503A pharmacies using ingredients sourced from FDA-registered suppliers, with certificates of analysis and third-party testing for every lot. They require a valid prescription and are dispensed under state pharmacy board oversight. Research-grade peptides may be sold by unregulated suppliers, typically labeled “not for human use,” without prescriptions, standardized testing, or regulatory oversight. Our pharmacies only compound and dispense pharmaceutical-grade preparations.
Do I need a prescription for compounded peptides?
Yes. All compounded peptide formulations require a valid prescription from a licensed prescriber. Our pharmacies do not dispense peptides without a prescription under any circumstances.
What does the October 2026 HHS enforcement discretion announcement mean for peptide availability?
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published an interim policy on October 30, 2026, covering six peptides: BPC-157, TB-500, KPV, MOTS-c, Semax, and Epitalon. Under this policy, HHS does not intend to take enforcement action against state-licensed pharmacies that compound medications using these peptides, as long as the pharmacy meets the conditions in the policy. This interim policy is a decision about enforcement-discretion. These peptides have not been added to the list of bulk drug substances allowed for 503A compounding. HHS may revisit application of this interim policy if, among other things, a safety signal or product quality issue arises with a compounded drug product within the scope of that policy. Before these compounded medications become available through 503A compounders, material qualification must be completed that identifies an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), Supplier, and Manufacturer that comply with the interim policy.
Why are some peptides not yet available through compounding pharmacies?
The availability of specific peptide formulations through licensed pharmacies depends on federal and state regulatory frameworks that determine which bulk drug substances can be used in compounding. Some peptides that have been widely discussed in clinical and consumer settings are not currently permitted for pharmacy compounding under existing regulations. Revelation Pharma is actively working with regulators and preparing formulations so that we are ready to offer additional peptides as soon as the regulatory pathway allows.
How do I find a prescriber who works with compounded peptides?
Use the Find a Pharmacy tool on this site to locate a Revelation pharmacy in your area.
